About Me

Hi, I'm Kevin.

I work in applied research for medical devices, specializing in software engineering and data science. My interests lie in building safe, highly performant software and machine learning models that make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

I'm currently a Principal Engineer at Abbott Laboratories, and an Associate Research Fellow in Abbott's Volwiler Society1. I work with brilliant colleagues doing cutting-edge research in medical devices, and I regularly learn new things from people across all levels of experience.

A considerable amount of my spare time is spent reading research papers and textbooks, exploring new languages and tools, and keeping up with developments in the field.

While I tend to have greater impact as a hands-on technical contributor than as a functional manager, I view leadership as a critical part of my role. Fostering a shared vision, creating a sense of ownership, and ensuring that others receive the recognition they deserve are among the most important aspects of my work.

In my free time I enjoy hiking, trail running, backpacking, downhill skiing, traveling, scuba diving, reading history, spending time with family and the dogs, and churning out low-quality blog content.

All opinions expressed here are, of course, my own.
